to increase the
annum,
salary of this office from $720 to $1,080 per
the maximum rate at which the services of a suitable
candidate could be obtained locally. The increase is not however so
large as it appears, as Mr. Cumpston being
on a

temporary footing is not entitled to the exchange compensation allowance which his predecessor drew.
3. The advantage from
a local
an economical point of view of engaging candidate for this appointment in preference to obtaining an officer from home is obvious, and I
therefore trust that the terms of this new
