Warder in the Victoria Gaol, who has been invalided from the service.
I enclose the usual paper of particulars and a copy of the medical certificate required by the Pension Minute, from which latter document you will observe that Mr. McMullen is suffering from marked varicose veins.
Mr. McMullen was engaged by the Crown Agents in November, 1895, and, in view of the complaint from which he is suffering, it would seem that he could not at that time have been medically fit for service as a warder in a prison.
I request, therefore, that the attention of the Crown Agents may be called to this case, and that a strict medical examination may be made in future before candidates are engaged.
