me for the purpose of escaping punishment for his own of-

fences.

In conclusion I have the honour to request

you to submit this letter to the favourable consideration

of His Excellency the Governor, and to inform me at your

early convenience, whether or not, I have exculpated myself

to the stisfaction of His Excellency.

6. In the unfortunate event of my statement

not being considered satisfactory,I have further the honour

to request that I may be duly apprised of the day and hour

on which the question of my suspension will be brought be-

fore the Executive Council.

7.In that event I shall be much obliged if

some few days before the hearing you will furnish me not

only with the names of the witnesses whom it is intended

to examine before the Council in support of the charges but

also with a copy of their statements.

8. I shall be still further obliged if,having

regard to the very serious nature of the charges brought

against me,His Excellency will be graciously pleased to al-

low me to appear on the hearing by Counsel or Solicitor.
