with reference to 3rd item in paper III

$15 means that on the 1st day of this year I paid to Sham Ngaw $15.00 to be handed to Wan Shing the sum of $15.00. Tram Ngaw whose quarters are near End Temple is the head district watchman.

At the same rate I have been paying Wan Shing from the time the house was opened, that is for the last four or five years.

I did not arrange it with Wan Shing. Sham Ngaw did so. Sham Ngaw is one of the watchmen employed in the gambling house. The sum of $15 was divided amongst 12 people as is shown in list marked "H" in pencil.

The 4th item in paper III "$3.60" means that on the 1st day of this year, I paid to a man in the Rho Shing Theatre called "Suth" (he is a seat seller in the Theatre) the sum of $3.60. I paid the money to a man called "Ayuk".

When the Yil Ki first opened, I paid Cheong Tin du (Interpreter in the Central Police Station) $1.00 a day. It was afterwards raised to $2 a day, then to $3.60 a day. I arranged it first with Tang Kam, he was formerly a detective in the Police Force, he was very tall. I have paid Ayuk for over a year. Cheong Tin du sent Ayuk to me & told me to pay it to Ayuk in future. Ayuk is still here in the Rho Shing Theatre as a seat seller. His name is Ayuk.

He is a stout man of middle height, round faced.

Cheong Tin du is a rather thin man of middle height - he was the man who read over the charge to me when I was charged. He has a private ricksha. He is between 40 & 50. I have heard he lives in Sai Ying Pun. I heard that he was formerly charge room Interpreter at Wan Chai & that he was transferred to the Central Station a few years ago.
