A strenuous effort
was therefore made to ensure
a conviction in
the gambling house case
in the hope of being
able to utilize him afterwards.
I made
every endeavour
to obtain for Mr Denny's case
a witness or witnesses entirely
unconnected with this
gambling house who could speak to having gambled in it, and pledged pro-
perty there.
