I was not however till
Monday the 21st that I succeeded in identifying
the street where the depot was situated.
It was Acting Chief Inspector Mackie, whom I had on Monday the 20th June taken
into my confidence that helped me to the clue, and I
immediately made out a warrant for N°3 East Street
under Section 11 of Ordinance 1891 and arranged with the
Acting Chief Inspector to watch a short distance from the house at 4 in the same
afternoon.

In order not to
excite suspicion I entered the
house first, telling Acting Chief
Inspector Mackie to follow
after an interval of a few
minutes.
When I unlocked the front door, I discovered
a large cupboard which was open, in which a man called me by name. A tin box which
was opened was found to contain
over $1000 in cash,
about $300 worth of jewellery,
in the shape of rings, bangles,
ornaments for the hair, and
some watches and watch chains,
and various account books and
papers. Each article of jewellery
was wrapped up in a piece of paper by itself and marked
