262 dollars a month extra remuneration for charge of the Gaol (if the proposals in my letter A:227 of the 22 instant are approved) and that the remuneration could be made up to $225 a month by keeping one Constable below the European Force strength.

I presume that if the salary of the Deputy Superintendent is increased by $50 for gaol services, that no part of such increase will be paid to Mr. Badley seeing that he has done no work in the Gaol. It is only fair that the whole amount should be drawn by the officer who does the work.

I ask that a telegram be sent as circumstances have been altered by Mr. Lethbridge's resignation, and the question of sending out a Constabulary Officer must be under consideration at this moment at home as my recommendation was sent in at the end of May.

I have &c.

Sd. Fr. H. May,

Capt. Supt. of Police.

The Colonial Secretary.
