intendent of the Victoria Gaol, has accepted, with commission, an appointment in the English Prisons Service from the 30th instant inclusive, and in reply to the final paragraph thereof to submit for your favourable consideration the suggestions contained in the enclosed copy of a letter from Mr. F. S. May, Captain Superintendent of Police, dated 4th July 1897, in connection with the combination of the Police and the Gaol under one head, in which I concur generally.
