specting the appointment of Mr. F. G. Figg to be acting Director during absence from the Colony on leave.

I have only to remark that Mr. Plummer's management of the Observatory in 1894 was made the subject of complaint by Dr. Doberek on his return to the Colony, that the justification of such complaint was fully established by the result of an independent enquiry into the matter and that in view of these circumstances and on the strong recommendation of the Director of the Observatory I deemed it advisable in the interests of the Public to select Mr. Figg for the acting appointment of Director.

Mr. Plummer has been informed that in making the appointment, I was guided by Dr. Doberck's recommendation.
