I have therefore to recommend that application be made to the Crown Agents for how Colonies to enlist 7 recruits for the Force and to send them out here so as to arrive in November next.

The Agents will hardly be able to get the men together and ready to start before the middle of October.

I have one application from Morgan Faherty, Knock Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland. Morgan Faverty is a brother of Police Constable Faherty who joined this Force from the Royal Irish Constabulary last year and who has given great satisfaction. Police Constable Faherty states that his brother is 23 years of age, of powerful build but only 5 ft. 6¼ inches height.

This is short. But as there is no standard fixed for Europeans in this Force, and as I consider it wiser to take a recruit whose character is vouched for by a deserving Constable already in the Force, than to take the chance of what we may get from some other Force, I recommend that this candidate be accepted if he is favourably reported on by the superintending Officer.

This candidate might be inspected by Sergeant Moffatt who lives in the County Donegal.

There are at present at home on leave Sergeants Robertson, Moffatt and McIver and as I anticipate difficulty in getting any from Police Force, I beg to recommend that the Crown Agents be requested to call upon these Sergeants to recommend one candidate of good physique and educational attainments and of exemplary character.
