2. Although the officer who may be selected for this appointment will remain in the Colony under then circumstances, I shall only be prepared to extend his leave on very strong grounds, and until his return to the Colony be allowed to take up any acting appointment outside the Police Force.
It may be some time after the expiration of Mr. Badeley's present leave, it is understood that Mr. Hudlesty's leave will be necessarily extended. As at present advised, I see no hesitation in accepting the suggestion made in your despatch.
