I consider however that this latter additional item of expenditure might be sanctioned in the interests of the Police Force and Fire Brigade, and I beg to recommend that such an officer as Mr. M. May applies for be selected and required to enter into an agreement to serve in this Colony for a period of not less than one year on the terms as regards emoluments etc. mentioned in Mr. May's letter with the exception of exchange compensation to which I do not
