to amalgamate with that of Chief Detective Inspector. The salary
of Inspector of Weights and Measures is $240 per annum, and the
present incumbent of the post is Inspector Stanton.
By the addition therefore of $72 per annum (which could
be defrayed this year out of lapsing pay) the salary of the
Chief Detective Inspector could be made up to $1630.

I feel convinced that if my recommendation is approved
the higher position and title conferred upon Inspector Stanton
and although carrying an increase of $6 per mensem with it, will be much appreciated by that deserving officer.
An incentive will, I think, also be held out by the
creation of the new appointment to others to educate themselves
with a view to succeeding to the Chief Detective Inspectorship hereafter.
