celebration of the sixtieth anniversary

of Her Majesty's Accession, a contingent

of 20 Chinese Police and 10 Sikh Police, to which will be added 12 European

Police at present on leave in England, —

making in all a total of 42 men.

I had the intention to have sent a larger number of men,

but I found it impossible to do so without weakening

the Police to an extent which might have been prejudicial

to the public safety.

The men have been carefully selected from among those who volunteered, especially the Chinese Police, whose characteristic features, and, to the British public, novel uniform should form by no means the least interesting portion of Her Majesty's escort.

I may add that no difficulty whatever was experienced in obtaining the necessary funds to defray the expenses, the Unofficial Members cheerfully and readily agreeing to provide any sum that might be required to enable this Colony to show its loyalty to Her Majesty's person at the forthcoming Jubilee.
