appointment of another Assistant, he should leave-
geon may be appointed on
salary and allowances as those of Dr Clark
and Dr Bell, viz. $300 a
month with free quarters
or an allowance of $60 a
month in lieu of quarters.
I enclose the necessary paper in detail
Dr. Ayres desires to retire if possible on the first of May next, so that if you approve the appointment
of particulars. it is desirable to make the appointment to England as early as possible.
Dr Thomson and Dr Jordan each draw only $200
a month, so that if another assistant is appointed, the
expenditure on account of the staff of the medical department will be only slightly in excess of that recommended by the Committee of Inquiry.
