that I have appointed Alfred John Mackie, son of Police Inspector Mackie, to be a student Interpreter in the Public Service of this Colony under section II of the Regulations, of which a copy is enclosed.

Mr. Mackie already possesses some knowledge of Cantonese colloquial, and I have reason to believe that he will eventually prove a good interpreter in that language.
