the Government the loss of : the cost of recruiting them and bringing them from India, and would probably also have created difficulties in the way of obtaining recruits from India in the future.
4. I should, however, have faced these difficulties without hesitation, and refused all concessions, if it not been clear to me that the position of the Indian Police compared, to a slight extent, favourably, as regards their pay with that of the Indian boy soldiers on service in this Colony.
