On
D. Ayres was, as you are aware, appointed to his present post in 1873, on a salary of £600 a year; an additional allowance of £180 as Superintendent of the Lock Hospital, and with the privilege of private practice. In 1887 he accepted an offer, which he had previously repeatedly declined, that his total salary should be increased to $4,800 a year in consideration of his relinquishing his right to all private practice except consultations, and he was at the same time granted a house allowance of $1080 a year.
