410955/95; viz. because for 14 years of his service he was enjoying
lucrative private practice, for less than 10 years has he been without
salary, private practice, drawing for that latter period a considerably increased
salary,
besides a house allowance.
I suggested in 10985/95 that he should not have more than 2 years for prof'l qual, but I should not mind extending this to 3 years in his special case.
Considering that we are giving him 23 years in detail for service, 5 for climate and 5 which we will not specify being partly for professional qualifications partly because we have retired him slightly before he wished to go.
I am satisfied that this is equitable treatment. If you want further light on the subject, please read 10985/95.
All the circumstances under which prevented making D'Agre retire, he is being compulsorily retired at 60, practically on the ground of physical unfitness for further service.
Evidence of his unfitness...
(2) But if 3 years is allowed for professional qualifications, I would not also add 2 years as proposed for "Extraordinary merit" under s. 8 of Pension Rules. I would therefore approve a pension of 31/60.
Calculation: $7186300 x 31/60 = $3255
When this is settled, please refer to Pris. Sec. to see as to his successor, but I imagine the proposal on this point will be approved.

Dr. Ayres calculation
1. We had better give him "A" as my 33-60 this time.

There is no doubt whatever that Atkinson - the second man in the department and head of the hospital - is an excellent man and should succeed Ayres.
This paper recommends M. H. F. Wilson to be his successor. C.P.L. 7 April seems to have been delayed somewhere & a draft is annexed for consideration.
As to Dr. Agre's pension, I am strongly against giving any addition under sec. 8 of the Pensions Ordinance which provides for "cases of Extraordinary merit".
