This institution has
been hitherto maintained
as a
temporary establishment
for the isolation and treatment of diseases of an epidemic nature, and all charges
in connection with it's

defrayed last year from the special Plague Vote, the temporary staff consisting of an European Ward-master
necessary cook and attendants.

the Estimates for 1897 were being prepared, the Acting Colonial Surgeon recommended
that this hospital should
be established on a
permanent basis, and that a properly qualified wardmaster should be obtained from England,
as Mr. Cunningham who was temporarily employed in that capacity though he did good work
