of only $95 as at present. I consider the suggestion a good one, and request your authority to incur the necessary increase in expenditure, which will be inconsiderable.
The proposal, if approved, will, as shown in the enclosed table, involve an increase of only $298 in the estimated expenditure for 1897, as the Captain Superintendent of Police reports that he will be able to do without the services of 7 class Water Police Constables for whom provision has been made in the Estimates, owing to the Acting Captain Superintendent of Police having over-estimated the number of men necessary.
