With reference to C.O. Despatch
No. 140 of the 24th June 1896 I have the honor to report that the number of floggings inflicted during the past year for prison offences
was 168.
The system of dealing with cases of labour having been entirely altered during the latter half of last year I would point out that of these 168 floggings 153 were awarded during the first half year
and 15 during the second half year. Of the 153 floggings 130 were ordered by the Superintendent alone.
