reports that the staff of the Registration Branch as at present provisionally organised (one Superintendent and four clerks) is found to be insufficient to properly cope with the business of Registration and the Parcels Posts.
The Acting Postmaster General was unwilling to recommend the employment of a larger staff until a fair trial had been made with the present number of clerks, which he at first thought would be adequate, but he has lately furnished me with a report showing that from the 14th to the 19th December inclusive, two of the four registration clerks had to work 52 and 51 hours respectively, while the other two worked 60 and 62½ hours during the same period, in addition to 8 and 6 hours respectively on Sunday, the 20th December.
