I am directed by the Secretary Chamberlain to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th inst: and to state that he cannot express his regret otherwise than in accordance with the ordinary regulations. As therefore you do not claim and are not certified to be unfit for further service, he cannot permit you to receive a retiring allowance before the age of 55.
He grants you an extension for two months and eleven days from the 7th of August next.
