Your letter of the 31st ultimo I am directed by M: Chamberlain to inform you that large sums have been and are being spent upon the sanitation and water supply of Hongkong, and that the colonial government has already resumed or is resuming in process of the most overcrowded areas in the colony.

The attention which is given to these matters by the colonial government is shown in the enclosed annual report on the colony for 1894, particularly on pages 14 and 16.

Your faithful servant,

Florence Nightingale

The Right Honourable

Lord S. for the Colonies

"Mr. Chamberlain"
