W. Jameson says he is a Cambridge graduate, but as I can discover no record of his degree, I am inclined to treat his claim with skepticism, much like M. Jones.
I have the honour to report my arrival in England on leave of absence from Hong Kong, where I hold the appointment of Assistant Master in Queen's College. At the same time, I would respectfully call your attention to what appears to be an error in my Leave-Certificates.
It is there stated that I have previously had nine months' leave of absence on half pay, whereas two of those months were school vacations with full pay.
Being desirous of studying Law with a view to enlarging the sphere of my usefulness in the Colony, I should be grateful if I could be granted, without such a deduction from the leave to which my residence in the Colony has entitled me, a period that will enable me to complete the prescribed course, which extends over a period of three years.
In support of my application, I would state that I am a graduate of Cambridge University and that I have voluntarily undertaken the study of the Chinese language and literature.
