Sorry for the man,

but I am afraid we cannot run the risk of offering him Employment elsewhere.

Reply that S. of State cannot interfere with the discretion of Haughing to exercise, which under the terms of his Agreement they were at liberty to exercise as to the retention of his services, & express regret that Mr. Chamberlain can hold out no hope of being able to reinstate him.

I can do nothing else. But I promise to let him have it.

Engaging him is not my thing. The nature and cause of his offending was asking for an increased allowance for whisking prisms. Seeing how he was attached to Lettice's drama & Whiffing, $5 a month, to present Mowen a Letting 26.6.

As may be most convenient.

I have the Honor to be,

Sir,

your obedient servant

To the Right Hon The Under Secretary of State for the Colonies

13454

I have the honor to report that in June 1892 I was engaged by the Crown Agents for the Colonies as a 3rd Class Turnkey for H.M. Prison at Hong Kong and joined establishment for duty on the 16th August 1892 on a 3 years agreement which contained a provision for extending my services for a further period subject to conduct && being satisfactory.

I was promoted from 3rd Class to 1st Class and so far as I am aware my conduct was satisfactory.
