for some time. It was also hoped that in the meantime definite arrangements would be made for the reorganisation of the medical and sanitary departments.

As matters are, it has seemed to me that there can be little objection to allowing him to return to the colony for one year; and now that the date of his retirement has been definitely fixed, possibly his experience may be of use to you in working out the future arrangements of the medical and sanitary departments to be made.

4. I assume that I shall hear further from you in due course on the various points raised in my despatch No. 229 of the 14th September last. At present I have only received your despatch No. 337 of the 2nd of Sept. last on to the future constitution of the Sanitary Board.
