I am directed by the Board of Customs to acknowledge the receipt of M. Fairfield's letter of yesterday's date on the subject of the existence of Bubonic Plague at Hong Kong, and to state, in reply, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that urgent instructions have been issued to Customs Officers performing Quarantine duties at Ports where Vessels from the East chiefly arrive, directing their special attention to the subject.
