H.B.M. CONSULATE,

AMOY,

Feb 20 96

204

19th October 1890.

Referring to your letter of the 12th October,

1890, I have the honour to forward for transmission

to the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce 19 iron pans

manufactured in this district, and exported mostly

to British Colonies.

I have marked on each pan the price (retail)

here, and the port to which it is exported.

You will notice none of the pans are marked

as being exported to Hongkong.

The reason of this is that only a few iron

pans are exported from Amoy to Hongkong, because

there are only a few Amoy men in that Colony.

The natives of Kuang Tung have obtained the

monopoly of the labour market at Hongkong, and I am

E. H. Fraser Esq.,

H.B.M. Acting Consul

Canton.
