Report (Fara. 98) may be read as follows.

Pokefoolum Reservoir. 513 Gathering-ground 416 acres Par. 106.

Gross Water represented by one inch of rain on 416 acres in millions of gallons = 416 x 22,635 = 9.42 Millions.

Total rain falling on gathering ground 9.42 millions x 9.74 inches of rain = 91.75 millions of gallons.

Water distributed to Town during period 99.81 Para. 94.

Drawn out of stock and available 62.80 Para. 95

Remainder contributed by rain 37.31 millions

Hence 37.31 x 100 / 91.75 = 40 per cent of the actual rainfall, found its way to the reservoir, in a manner available for distribution.

Similarly for Taitam.

The gathering-ground is 680 acres so that one inch affords 15.40 million gallons.

The total rainfall which fell was 15.40 x 9.74 = 150.00 millions

The water distributed was 152.93 millions

of which was taken from stock 305.00

Remains actual contribution from gathering-ground 47.93

As against rain falling 150.00 or 47.93 x 100 / 150 = 32 per cent.

It is remarkable that the available percentage at Pokefoolum, is markedly greater than that at Taitam: whereas in other cases it is less, or in this case only slightly greater.

This may be accounted for by the fact that the calculations are based on observations taken at the Observatory.
