I have the honour to enclose a letter, in original to be returned, dated the 28th instant which we have received from the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank applying for permission to make certain alterations in the securities deposited with us as Trustees for the Hong Kong Government in connection with the note issue of that Bank.
The Bank is doubtless anxious to realise the very considerable increase in the value of these Consols. If the proposed change is approved, the Securities held against the note issue will be as follows:-
In London:-
£177,000. 21/2 per cent Consols £10,000 Canada 3 per cent I. Stock £15,000 Cape 3 per cent I. Stock £10,000 Natal 3% £25,000 W.Australia 4% £65,000 Chinese Government Gold Loan 6 per cent 1895 June and December. £55,000 do - January and July.In the Colony:- Chinese Imperial Government Loan of 1886 D.
$82,000.
