8. Mr. Moon,- To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies, whether the officers of the German mail steamer who were recently sentenced for entering forts at Hong Kong with photographic apparatus, had, prior to their arrest, taken any photographs of, or in connection with, any of the forts; and, if so, whether such photographs were impounded. [Friday 15th May.]
Mr.
CHAMBERLAIN (Birmingham, W.). The Governor has reported by telegram that no photographs of the forts were taken by the German officers in question, whose original sentence of imprisonment with hard labour was commuted after a re-hearing to a fine of $100.
