Mr Kaddo should also be informed that he must not expect to receive extra remuneration for any herpetological work which he may be called upon to undertake for the Government.

I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to inform you, with reference to the letter from this Department of the 30th of October last, that, having received the Report which he had called for from the Governor of Hong Kong on that Colony, he will extend your Leave of Absence for 4 months with half salary, from the 17th March next, subject however to the following conditions.
2. If you take advantage of this Extension beyond the 17th July next, when you will have exhausted all the leave to which your service entitles you, it will be regarded as leave taken in advance of that earned by future service & it will be necessary for you to enter into a Bond with the Crown Agents for Colonies, undertaking to retire from the service for at least two years after the expiration of such leave, except on medical grounds.
