With reference to

the new Road which it is

proposed to construct between Victoria Gap and Mount Kellet Road, I have been induced

I to insert this item in the

Estimates because I regard the construction of such road a necessity in the Hill District, which has now become

the

chief residential quarter

of the European residents of this Colony and which is at present approached from Victoria Gap to Mount Kellet by a road which is very steep and during certain times of the year almost impassable. The Unofficial Members of Council

are all in favour of the new road being constructed and joined an influential petition in favour of its construction which was signed by most of the leading European inhabitants of the

Colony
