Civil Hospital recommending that Mr. D. Haywood, Overseer in the Public Works Department, be allowed to retire from the Service on pension, on the ground of failing health. Mr Haywood was engaged as a temporary Overseer in the Public Works Department in September, 1888, on a salary of $30 a month, which was subsequently increased to $60 a month, his present pay. He has therefore served for 16 years, during which period he has discharged his duties satisfactorily, but as he has never been placed upon the permanent staff of the department, he is not eligible for pension, though he states that he understood from a late Surveyor General (Mr Price) that he would be eligible for pension after 10 years service.
