The case of Mr Stazeland has been carefully considered and I have nothing to add to the several replies which I have caused to be sent to his repeated applications.
I should explain that since his promotion to the Supreme Court in 1876, circumstances have arisen which appear to me to place the case of this gentleman on a different footing from that of his brother Mr E. M. Hazeland, whose position in the Public Works department cannot, I think, be properly compared with that his brother, Mr F. A. Hazeland, has been allowed to draw the Compensation from the date of his appointment as Deputy Registrar of ... formed "an office of much ..."
