Regulation make no mention of the seasonal prohibition of such passengers, but as regards the ports of the Straits Settlements, German steamers have, like our own, to submit to the Singapore ordinance of 11th January 1886. No competition at present takes place in the passenger business for other ports. German steamers monopolise the Swatow and British steamers the Bangkok trade.
