tained in paragraph 2 of your despatch under reply have been duly noted, and if hereafter the Banks in Hongkong should not allow the Government as much as 2 per cent on current accounts,

an amending Ordinance will be introduced on the lines suggested.

With reference to paragraph 3 of your despatch, I have to state that the monies referred to in paragraph 4 of your predecessor's despatch No. 128 of 10th August, 1894, were not paid into the Treasury until the 1st ultimo, and that they are shown in the returns of Government Bank Balances for that month, which will reach you about the end of the current month.
