Body of Queen's College, which has for some time had under its consideration the question of the improvement of the teaching of English in that Institution, concur in the recommendations of the Governing Body, which are I think calculated to secure the very desirable object which they have in view. I have accordingly abolished what has hitherto been known as the Chinese school in which Chinese only was taught according to Chinese methods. The abolition of this school enables me to dispense with the services of four Chinese teachers, and I recommend that pensions be awarded to them under Rule 12 of the Pension Minute. I will forward in a subsequent communication particulars of the amounts of pension which may be granted to them.
