receive no salary during the period for which you have been later-
dicted from office.
(4) The pay of the office of Government Analyst has just
been raised from $2,160 to $2,400 per annum. His Excellency has
decided that this increase shall be withheld from you and that it
shall not come into operation so far as you are concerned till the
1st January 1897 if at that date you should still be in Government
employ.
(5) And lastly your past misconduct will be noted in your
record of service so that if the time should ever arrive for you to
claim a pension a sensible reduction will be made from the amount to
be awarded to you as a result of that misconduct.
Judging from past experience it would appear useless
to express a hope that this may be a severe and wholesome lesson to
you and one which will induce you to abstain from any future excess.
If such should not be the case you need expect no further
clemency whatever, and I am to assure you that as before indicated
you will be dealt with summarily as an unprofitable servant who has tho-
roughly discredited the position entrusted to him by Government
which had extended to him the greatest generosity and forbearance.
