against an appointment which I consider injurious to myself roto
officially and otherwise.

Sir,
I am directed by the Governor to acknowledge the receipt
of your letter of the 8th.instant, regarding the appointment of
Acting Puisne Judge.
In reply I am to inform you that His Excellency is sur-
-prised that yoy shold have written in auch terms as you have
employed respecting an acting appointment, the filling of which
is left, as you ought to te aware, entirely to the discretion of
the Governor, and to state that be intends to forward a copy of
your letter to the Secretary of State.
I as to add that in the exercise of his discretion, His
Excellency has selected Mr. Serconte Smith to fill the post of
Acting Pulane Judge, an office in which be has already teen tried
and has given entire satisfaction toth to the Government and to
the Community generally.
