honour to reply to that portion of your despatch N°229 of their m 18th September last which deals with the Medical Staff of the Colony, and to submit the following
recommendations
in regard thereto :-
1. That the recently appoint ed Medical Officer of "ealth for the Colony be permanently
attached to the new
-Sanitary
Board in a subordinate capaci

ty: that he be the adviser of the Board (and indirectly of the Government through the Board) on all matters connect. ed with the Public Health of
the Colony,
and at the same
time the Board's Chief Executive
Officer: and further that he be entirely independent of the control of the Head of the Medi cal staff proper, except in the latter's capacity
as a member
of the Sanitary Board.
