Referring to the Hon. the Harbour Master's

minute catea 24,4,95,1 respectfully submit that the state-

ment that the Shroff's larger collections are at the Mer-

cantile Marine Office, is inaccurate, if Colonial monies, for

which alone he is paid, are considered.

The following figures explain my meaning.

In March last fees for which the Harbour

Master is Collector amounted to $12,950.37. Light dues to-

talled $8,069.39.

All the Colonial onies handled in the Mer-

cantile Marine Office were shipping... $747.80.

Lischarge...$671.80.

Total.....$1419.60.

The shroff also manages considerable Board of

Trane monies, but the above is all the Colonial cash he col-

lects at the Mercantile Marine office. of the valance, Junks

Victoria $1,293, the Chinese Interpreter and Writer referred

to by the Hon. the Harbour Master in the 3rd.paragraph of

his minute collects at the Harbour Office. $1,094.25 Junk

fees were also collected at Out-stations.

$9,145,52 were therefore collected at the

Harbour Office,i.e,debit notes for this amount, were sent

from the Harbour Office for collection.

Gunpowder Storage was the principal item
