My Lord Marquess,

I have the honour, as requested in Md. Fainfell's despatch 395 of 5th Ult., to return, filled up to the best of my ability, the enclosed pension paper of particulars which I sent therewith.

In stating the length of my service I have assumed that my service for purposes of pension dates from the date of my appointment as Writer by the Secretary of State.

I believe that I am justified in doing so by the Customary pension minute which governs my case.
