may gracioushe pleased to allow me to remin in this country for as long a period as possible - on half pay for such period as to him may seem proper, and without it subsequently.

as, in that case, it is quite possible that,

by passing direct from the service of one to that of accother department, I may not be compelled to forego the pension carned by me in Hong Kong- amounting at present to £300 per annum.
