We regret that it is impossible to make a double
dating embossing die as small as your sketch at side.
The design submitted by our memo. of 12th. inst., was con-
tracted to the uttermost, and only just allowed sufficient
space for the shank to the die and the shoulders to the
date plugs.

We enclose a memorandum to Messrs De La Rue Co.
(dated 18th. inst.,) and their reply, explaining their
reasons for not being able to make a small double dating
embossing die.
With regard to the suggestion in your letter of the
17th. inst., we do not find it advisable in matte's of
such importance as stamp work to employ more than one firm.
