REGA MAR 95,

Referring to your letter of the 21st December, and our reply 2075894 Straits

of the 27th idem. I beg to subjoin extract from a letter from our Mo 22499 Hongkong office dated 30th January, with reference to chopping the

new British Dollar.

We have promised the Government here to assist them in every

way we can to prevent chopping the dollar. We want to have our

▾ cash balance interchangeable with the Straits, and chopping would

* of course defeat this object. We also expect Siam to accept

* the British dollar on the same conditions as the clean Mexican

• It is very doubtful if the Chinese up North will take to them for

韓 some time, but they will not look at them chopped at all. In

course of time we hope to see the British Dollar by count become

* the currency of Hongkong *

We are,

Sir,

Your obedient servants

Edward Fairfield Esq. C.M.G.
