In reply to your letter of 4th June 1895,

9155/95, I am directed to state for the information of

Mr Chamberlain that the application has been considered

and that the Secretary of State for War is now prepared

to consent to the construction of Petroleum Tanks at Hong

Kong on the site A. B. C. D. on the tracing attached to

the manuscript dated 5th April 1895 signed by Messrs

Leigh and Orange, which is returned herewith on the under-

standing that no extension of the works over the site

C. D. E. F. in the direction of the battery at North

Point can be permitted.

The tanks must be constructed underground in

accordance with the specification extracted from the

proposed Inflammatory Liquids Bill
