In reply to Mr De La Bere's letter of the 21st
instant, respecting the Hong Kong Military Contribution
for 1894 and following years, the Lords Commissioners of
Her Majesty's Treasury desire me to say, for the informa-
tion of Mr Secretary Campbell-Bannerman, that They have
received no communication on the subject from the
Colonial office since their letter of 2nd August last.
If the Colony is continuing to pay at the rate
of £40,000 per annum for 1894, My Lords think that its
payments should be regarded as final, in the absence
of any intimation to the contrary; and that until Her
Majesty's Government decides otherwise, a claim at the
rate of £40,000 per annum should be preferred against
the Colony for the years following 1894.
I am,
Sir,
The Financial Secretary,
War office.
Your obedient servant,
(♬d). G.£.Ryder
